The Re Purposed Outdoor Kitchen Part Two

We are going to continue with our journey to the Re Purposed Outdoor Kitchen . When we left our journey in  Link Part One Re Purposed Kitchen we were just about to grout the tile. Since this is an outdoor kitchen we decided to have black grout so it would be easier to keep and it wouldn't yellow like white sometimes does. It was very hot the day we did this so we had to work really fast before the grout got too dry to work with. We Had A Lot Of Area To Cover Smoothing In The Grout The Grout Is All On Re Purposed Desk Will Serve As A Work Station All Wiped Down and Glazed Ready To Use The Sink With Running Water Is The Greatest! Christmas Canning In July

I love to give a little something from my kitchen at Christmas time, but I usually start that process in the middle of the summer. Last year I had Christmas Canning In September  I usually put a loaf of bread or maybe a jar of pickles in the gift basket. Last year I put my new cookbook in the basket. I have started work on this years Christmas and it is going to be so good, Strawberry Jalapeno Jam I can't wait to give my gifts.

One Year Ago Today

The Journey Begins     One year ago today I published my first post, The Journey Begins .  When I look back now I am amazed at how fast the time has passed by.  I had published my cookbook Miz Helen's Kitchen Table about a month before I began work on the blog. My daughter called and said if you're not busy go to your computer, which I did. She directed me to my new blog that she had set up for me. I just sat there and looked at it. It really looked like an airplane dashboard to me, and I thought she has got to be kidding. She was very encouraging, but I thought I really don't have the time to figure all of this out.  For weeks after that I would just go in and look at it, close it and go about my day. Finally one day I made the decision that I would attempt the blog. Right away I changed everything she had done and made it mine, of course I did. When   the day finally came to publish the first post, I sat frozen in front of the screen, fear of the unknown had taken ove

The Re Purposed Outdoor Kitchen Part One

When we began to develop our little country place we wanted to have an outdoor kitchen because we spend so much time outdoors all year round. Although we knew where we would eventually have the kitchen it has been a work in progress. One of the inside projects we completed this year in the kitchen, was to add some additional custom built cabinets, new counter tops, a back splash, new sink and faucet and of course the new refrigerator, which I am still in love with. We decided that we would re purpose the old cabinet tops, sink and faucet for our outdoor kitchen. This is what we did. The "We" is my wonderful and talented husband Leonard and me. We Set The Old Cabinet Top On A Base Of Cinder Block's The Old Sink and Faucet Ready To Set In The Outdoor Cabinet Ready To Begin New water lines from the house to the new outdoor kitchen had been run a couple of weeks prior to beginning the final construction. The drain for the sink is filtered with river rock

Skillet Chop's

There is nothing better than a dish prepared in the old iron skillet. That well seasoned skillet that we use when we want that certain flavor. My iron skillet is more than 40 years old and is one of the first skillets I ever owned for my kitchen. I have several sizes of skillets and large dutch ovens, but this is the skillet that I reach for the most. I am so glad you stopped by today I am making some Skillet Chops and I sure hope you enjoy them.

The Garden Gate: The Squash Patch

We just love the different varieties of squash. Squash requires a lot of space, and so we have developed an entire area in our garden just for the Squash Patch.   Working In My Very First Garden I Still Love To Have My Hands In The Dirt  The Squash Patch We planted two varities of Trombetta this year. Trombetta is an Italian heirloom summer squash. We planted Trombetta which is dark green and Trombetta de Albenga which is a lime green color. Both have a nutty artichoke flavor and are seedless. They are firm and not watery or mushy like regular Zucchini.
