Full Plate Thursday 1-30-14

Full Plate Thursday Where The Greatest Cooks On The Planet Gather The Super Bowl is this weekend and some of you are planning really big parties, for the big game. Our team didn't make it this year, but we will be enjoying the festivities with others. The thing I enjoy the most is the food, its like a grazing for 2 or 3 hours. We are sure glad to see you today and hear all about your week and especially see what you are bringing to share with us today, come on in and get warm by the fire, its "still" cold here. We have some hot cider and cookies to enjoy while we are waiting on all the food to get on the table.  I brought along my Southwest Skillet Dip for you to taste, this is what I will be taking for the Super Bowl Party this weekend. Southwest Skillet Dip

I just love the combination of beans, corn and roasted green chilies with that kick at the back of your throat as you are reaching for yet one more bite. The combination of this dish will certainly leave you wanting another bite. This is a dish that is very versatile, it can be served as a dip, individual appetizers, or even as a great side dish for rice and tortillas. I have some hot chocolate and cookies for you this morning, so come on in and get warm by the fire, I am so glad to see you.  We have been very busy here in the cottage kitchen.  We have several friends who have been sick with the flu, surgeries and other things so we made a very large pot of Chicken Soup and have it ready to deliver to all our friends,  Chicken Soup always makes us feel better. Man Cookies

Man Cookies have become a favorite at our cottage. I was at a ladies event just before the holidays and my friend Cindy brought these fabulous cookies to share. I asked her for the recipe and if it would be ok to share with my readers, she is so sweet of course she said yes. I can't keep enough of these cookies they just fly out of the cookie jar. Man Cookies Man Cookies Miz Helen's Kitchen 4 Dozen Cookies Ingredients 1 cup sugar 1 cup brown sugar 1 cup shortening 2 eggs  2 teaspoons vanilla 2 cups flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon soda 1 teaspoon salt 1 1/3 cup coconut 1 cup chopped pecans 2 cups quick cooking oatmeal Directions In a mixing bowl with an electric mixer, cream sugars and shortening, mix until the mixture is very creamy. Add eggs and vanilla and mix well. In a separate bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, soda, and salt. Stir the dry ingredient mix into the wet mixture, adding the dry mix a little at a t

We have been busy here at the cottage this week. I am so glad that you could take a drive to the country today it is always good to see you. Come take a walk with me out to the row crop area in the garden and we will take a look at the area that we have prepared to plant the onions, we will be planting them any day. Sweet and Sour Chicken is one of our families favorite Chinese dishes. We love to have a Chinese night and use our chop sticks and just have a fun evening. This recipe for Sweet and Sour Chicken is delicious with a sauce that we use with many other dishes.
