Meet Max

October 2012
Max is a rescue dog and he came to his new home here at the Country Cottage on October 26, 2012.  Max is a three year old Bichon Poodle mix and weighed 12 pounds 3 ounces.

We had 2 beloved Bichon's Andre and Jaque who lived with us for over 12 years.  They both passed away within a year of each other in 2011 and 2012.  We missed them so much and they will always have a special place in our heart.  The time finally came when we wanted to move on and have another little friend here at The Cottage with us.  We made a decision to seek a rescue dog rather than a new puppy and we are so glad we did, Max is so special and has already brought so much joy into our life.

We began our search for Max on the Bichon Rescue Web Sites, and I looked everyday for several weeks until one day his photo was there and I knew he was the one.

We made the necessary contacts and had a meeting with Max and the owner he was living with.  We knew that he was so afraid and had been so mistreated and neglected.  We made friends with Max that day in the park and our friendship has grown everyday, we love him so much.

Wow I May Like It Here

I Think I May Like It Here

Our first order of business was to visit the Vet and then off to the Groomer.  The Vet told us he was in great health overall but might need to gain a little weight and needed lots of TLC, we knew we could take care of both of those.  The Groomer said oh my, the only thing we can do is shave him down because he was matted so bad.

Thanksgiving 2012
Max has really adapted to his new home and to his new family.  He is great with other family members and their dogs, he even gets to go with us to the city and visit with family.  He loves to travel in his crate.  We still have to be careful about some sudden movement with him because of his former abuse, but I am sure in time he will become more trusting of us and others.

Christmas 2012
Max got to spend Christmas with family in the city and his new little friend Teddy, he got so many toy's for Christmas that we had to get a bigger basket to hold them all, not that we are spoiling him.

Winter Garden Work January 2013
Max loves to go outdoors and has a doggie door that he mastered the very first day he was here.  He loves to chase a ball and run so fast all over the property, he just loves all the space that we have here.

  1. How wonderful that you choose to rescue Max. We had a rescue Schnauzer that was the love of my life. And now we have a German Shepherd mix that someone abused and dumped and she came to our house, scared and beat up. She has wound up being a great girl. We love all dogs - especially the ones that are so special - wish we could adopt and love them every one. May God bless you.

  3. He's beautiful! We just rescued a terrier mix about 7 or 8 weeks ago. She's definitely part of the family now. We love her. :)

  6. Our dog, Duke, is also a rescue dog that my hubby found. He came home one day and said he'd found the perfect dog for us who was in need of a home. He was right. Duke is very old now and we know his time is short, but he's been the best dog we've ever had. I think rescue dogs know that they are loved and are grateful to have a home. Max is precious!
