The Garden Gate: Spring Blooms

For everyone in North and East Texas that are gardening with us this year we will be planting on Saturday.  A list of plants is at the bottom of this post.

The yard and garden are coming alive with color. I just love the spring with all the beautiful colors that awaken our senses after a long gray winter.

Japanese Red Leaf Maple

We have a pair of these beautiful trees that we put out last year. We were a little concerned that they would make it through the horrible heat we had in August and then the extra cold winter we had, but here they are showing their beautiful color.

Collard Greens Blooming

These Collard's are a year old. We put them out early last spring, they made it through the heat and the cold and now they are blooming. I wanted to share the blooms with you before I trimmed them down. I am hoping they will make it another year.

White Wisteria

The White Wisteria is in full bloom and is just beautiful. The aroma fills the entire garden. Each little bloom is so delicate. It is a very old plant.

It is supposed to be very warm on Saturday so we will be planting on Saturday. We will be planting Tomatoes, Peppers, Radish, Early Peas, Green Beans, Squash, Cucumber, Sweet Basil, Parsley, and Rosemary. I already have many of the herbs growing and will be adding to them. We planted over 200 onions in January and some will be ready to eat soon. The lettuce is coming up and we will have a salad very soon. We will be planting things as we go along for the next few weeks so watch for the Garden Gate Post, if you are planting along with us.

    Your garden looks so pretty, Miz Helen! All we have blooming at this point is crocus and snowdrops - there are a lot of plants coming up, though - the sweet promise of spring!

    Aww...makes me wish for some warmer weather here- I know it's coming soon! My kids (and only grandson) are in East Texas- I hope they're enjoying the warm weather and planting something good to eat! It's still just a little bit early to plant most of that here. Won't be long though!

    I just love the wisteria! I think it's so neat that you have a garden and can reap the benefits of so many veggies, etc. There's just nothing like fresh from the garden!

    Miz Helen, I didn't know that collard greens bloomed. I don't think I've ever seen white wisteria either. Your garden is just beautiful! I wish I could be planting today. I have heard that it's not safe to put anything in the ground up here in NH until Memorial Day. I'm so ready. Hope you are enjoying a wonderful weekend!

    I love your Japanese Maple. We bought one last year and thankfully it made it through the winter. Spring is so wonderful!

    Your photos are beautiful! Yes, I've got my garden going. I worked on it all day yesterday. I put a bunch of soil amendments in and then planted watermelon and zucchini and my tomatoes have been out for a few weeks. Looking forward to more photos of your garden this spring:)

    Thanks for sharing these beautiful shots of your garden on Fresh Clean and Pure Friday last week. I want to go out and buy several more Japanese Maple varieties, but they are so expensive! Lovely though!
