Pistachio Cake Recipe

Our Pistachio Cake Recipe is one of my husbands favorite. He gets so excited when he knows it is on the meal plan for the week. This is a very simple cake and loaded with flavor. It really takes just a few ingredients with a little pudding and some nuts to make this one of your family favorites.

March Food and Recipe Basket 2024:

I am so excited to share the March Food and Recipe Basket with all of you today. Weather is such a big factor in March as to weather we will have a early spring planting season or late. So far this year it looks like we will be able to plant early because we are having some real consistent warm days with some rain which is what we look for when planting.   We grow our own vegetables here at the cottage, which allows us to have either fresh, home canned or frozen vegetables available the year round. What we don't have available here, we usually find at one of our local farmers market. I have always been a seasonal cook and enjoy the transitions of the seasons so I hope you will enjoy these ideas and inspirations as we transition into another season.

Irish Shepherd's Pie

This is our Irish families recipe for Shepherd's Pie. We use ground beef rather than lamb with a mix of vegetables that is simmered in a rich gravy. We top it with creamy cheesy mashed potatoes then bake it in the oven. It is a heavenly casserole and will serve a hungry family with a very satisficing meal.

Irish Banger Skillet

If you don't have a lot of time to prepare a special Irish recipe this is the one you have been looking for. Irish Banger Skillet is so full of great Irish flavors and takes very little time before it is on the table for a hungry family. I love going to the garden for a fresh cabbage to use in this recipe, making it a great garden to table delight.  We are an Irish family with lots of family favorites, but this is a great go to recipe that our family loves!

Bangers & Mash With Onion Gravy

If you are walking into an Irish home after a long days work or an Irish Pub, one of the Irish comfort dishes being served would be Bangers & Mash With Onion Gravy. This is a table favorite of our Irish friends and family, just pure comfort with a great flavor. The Bangers simmered in a flavorful onion gravy then served a top a mound of mashed potatoes, it just doesn't get much better than this. This is one of our family favorites.

Grandma's Irish Stew

My Grandma was Irish and her heritage certainly came out in her cooking.  When I was working on my  Irish Soda Bread I knew that we just had to have Grandma's Irish Stew to go with it.  It is the same meal that I had in my Grandma's kitchen so many times when I was a youth and this has brought back so many wonderful memories. Grandma's Irish Stew at Miz Helen's Country Cottage Grandma's Irish Stew

Irish Soda Bread

I had an Irish Grandma, so I had Irish Soda Bread many times in my early childhood and what wonderful memories this post brought back for me. This recipe is very much like the one that my Grandma made, just a real rustic bread with fabulous flavor. My Grandma always made the bread in this very same iron skillet that I am fortunate enough to have, so today's Irish Soda Bread is made in my Irish Grandma's iron skillet (now mine).   Irish Soda Bread
