Custom Raised Garden Beds

We are so excited to share our Custom Raised Garden Beds with all of you! I have been posting about the garden project that we have been working on and it is far enough along now to share our photos and the details with all of you!

August Garden Tour

We had been retired for several months when a renter in one of our properties moved out. We had property and or lived in the community for about 30 years, but had returned to our home in the city for retirement. We decided to sell the rental property and would come to the lake every weekend to work on the property to get it ready to sell.19 years ago, we moved into our little cottage. We are still working on the property and most likely will never sell it, God willing! I believe that somewhere along the way our retirement became official.

One of the activities that we really enjoyed was our garden. When we first started we just had some row crops. That got to be a little much for us to handle so we developed an area with 4 large rectangles. As time moved along we have aged chronologically as did our ability to get down on the ground and then to get up from the ground.

Our daughter Robbin had surprised us one day in early March and said they wanted us to be able to continue to enjoy our garden. They wanted to build us some Custom Raised Garden Beds. What an amazing gift! I can't remember when I have had so much fun! We are blessed beyond measure!

The garden was cleared to make room for the raised beds.

The last space on the left is a flower garden with some established plants that I wanted to keep.

The process began, with Robbin's design for the beds, and Johns master carpenter talent's and abilities. They measured my height and the decision was made to make the top about the middle of my waist height.

They built the beds on site. They were built inside the stones that were laid our around our 4 rectangle garden area.

Three of the large beds are

9Ft long-4Ft wide and 29 inches high.

The flower bed is

82 inches long-54 inches wide and 29 inches high.

After the construction was complete, the outside of the beds were oiled with Lin Seed Oil. The oil will help protect the beds and the cedar is beautiful after it has been oiled.

After the construction was complete, large cedar logs were placed in the bottom on the ground. This will help to fill some of the space and the cedar will help keep the bugs away.
