Cheesy Burger Chowder
I love making a great pot of chowder, it is a perfect layering of flavors. These layers of flavors simmered together bring a bowl of goodness to the table that is very special. Our Cheesy Burger Chowder is made one layer at a time with vegetables and seasons that marry well in the simmering pot of chowder. This is our number one chowder request from family and friends, a winner every time!

How To Make Cheesy Burger Chowder
It is very important with this recipe to make sure you have all the chopped ingredients and seasons prepared for cooking.
We will begin our recipe with the bacon,
to cook it slow and render the grease.
Add the celery, onion and garlic, with a medium low heat continue to cook the vegetables until the onions start to clear.

Add the diced potatoes and stir well. Continuing to cook and stir.
Add the chicken broth, water, herbs and seasons then stir well.Stir the vegetable mixture well, place the lid on the stew pot and continue to cook on low.
While the vegetables are cooking brown the burger. When the burger is browned, then salt and pepper to taste. Add 1 cup of water to the skillet to loosen the goodness in the bottom of the skillet.
Add the burger to the vegetables that should be tender.
Stir the chowder well.Add the burger to the vegetables that should be tender.

Cheesy Burger Chowder
Layers of flavor combined to make a mouth watering award winning chowder. A friend & family favorite!
Ingredients
- 3 slices bacon, large chop
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, chopped
- 2 cups celery, chopped
- 1 medium size green bell pepper, chopped
- 2 cups carrots, medium slice
- 4 cups white potatoes, peeled and medium dice
- 1 tablespoon Herbs de Provence
- 1 small bunch fresh thyme
- salt and pepper to taste
- 6 cups chicken broth
- 3 cups water (divided)
- 1 pound ground chuck, browned
- 4 cups Velvetta cheese, cubed
- Fresh thyme sprig to garnish
Instructions
- In a very large stew pot, cook the bacon very slow in order to render the bacon grease.
- Add the onions, garlic, and celery, stir well continuing to cook on medium low until the onion is turning clear.
- Add the bell pepper, carrots and diced potatoes continue to stir and cook.
- Stir in the Herbs de Provence, small bunch of fresh thyme, salt and pepper to taste. Stir in the broth and 2 cups of water. Place the lid on the stew pot and cook on low for 20 minutes, until vegetables are tender.
- While the vegetables are cooking then brown the ground chuck, then add it to the mixture. Pour the remainder of the water in the bottom of the skillet to get all the goodness and pour it into the mix.
- Add the cheese and stir until the cheese is melted. Place the heat on simmer until ready to serve. Garnish with fresh thyme.
