We fortunately live in an area where we can enjoy a winter garden. We love to grow greens in our winter garden. We plant collards, cabbage, kale, turnip greens, and mustard greens. We have several herbs that are still producing through the winter months.
We have mother of thyme, oregano, rosemary and sage that are hardy during our winter months. I have a couple of containers of parsley that continues to produce during the winter months.
This time of the year I begin the final draft of the spring garden and begin to make final decisions as to what will be going into the spring garden. I have so much fun looking through the seed catalog's, and then making final decisions about which varieties will be going into all those rows.
Lets Take A Look At The Winter Greens Garden
We planted the garden the last part of September and because we had very high temperatures and good rains
the garden has matured nicely.
The Turnip Greens and Mustard Greens were up and
looking good by the first part of November.
The Collards and Cabbages look like
they will be great producers.
The Sage has been beautiful, I was able to use it in my holiday recipes, it really add a special flavor to these special recipes.
The Sweet Basil produced much longer this year due to the warmer temperatures up into the last of December. The Kale has been delicious and a great producer.
The Rosemary looks great and produces the year round,
it loves cold weather.
This was the most historical winter in Texas history, 2021!
We HAVE NOT had this kind of winter yet,
however the temperatures have got
down to 22 degrees a couple of times this week.
This is the sage after those low temps.
It still looks strong!
It is still a little frosty in between the rows.
Some of The Turnips looked a little wilted,
but they popped right back!

The Cabbage is starting to head out,
it will be a great cabbage!
These are beautiful collard and they are headed for the table.

ReplyDeleteThis is amazing to me I can't even get taller than 2 inches before the bugs or opposum eats my crop or maybe raccoons, its about impossible in Florida for me. I am so jealous!
