Totality In Texas-Part Two

Totality In Texas-Part Two at Miz Helen's Country Cottage
We are never really able to predict the outcome of any event in our life, but the outcome of this solar eclipse was very unexpected for me. I went into the event with many questions which I expressed in Celebrating Our Path Of Totality, Texas Style.

One of the many questions I had was how the wild life that come to our yard would respond to the events. At this time frame all the birds had gone high in the trees and they were silent. The bird bath that is usually full most of the time was completely empty. The little wind mill on the fence was still, there was absolutely still, no air was moving. There was a silence that came over the entire property.
I was reminded of the scripture "Be still and know that I am God" Psalms 46:10.

We were all ready for the event and comfortable in our well placed chairs in our back yard. I snapped this photo of my husband Leonard at 1:40 p.m. (CST). We were just beginning to see the eclipse happening. It was like looking at the moon across the lake, which we have watched so many times. There was an excitement and anticipation of the discovery of an unknown adventure.

The colors on the ground were beginning to show signs that the light was fading. I did not try to take any photos of the of the eclipse. I knew that there would be so many wonderful photos of the sky, I wanted information about what was going on in my own back yard and neighborhood.

By this time the ground was showing evidence of late afternoon or just before dusk in the evening. The chickens on the next property over from us were silent now. In order to protect our puppies eyes, we had kept him inside as he is often times looking up into the trees when there is a squirrel around. We couldn't hear him barking anymore, and upon checking on him later found he had gone to sleep.

And then it was dark, the barn light came on automictically as it does every evening. And still there was this overwhelming silence.

No one took a photo of me yesterday, but if they had, the expression on my face most likely would have been the same. Sometimes as we go through life, we don't have the question much less the answer. I did not count on the emotional response that I had to the events surrounding and during the solar eclipse. Best summed up it was clearly a very spiritual experience for me and one that I will never forget. My husband and I were so blessed to have been able to share this experience in our own back yard.

There is no doubt that we are a part of a greater purpose on this earth. With my belief a God that oversees us all. We are so blessed to have been given this gift!

Thanks so much for stopping by to share our experiences with us. Hope you have a lovely week and come back to see us real soon!
Peace and Joy

  1. Miz Helen, I love your follow up. We also noticed all the birds reacting with silence, including the chickens next door. We put our brush eating goats in before the rain came, it seemed all that animals knew something was about to take place. Have a wonderful week ahead.

  2. What you said about it being spiritual! I was skeptical of the whole thing, until my first glimpse of the sun, through eclipse glasses, came out from behind clouds. At totality, not a sound in my busy NW Austin neighborhood. Birds, dogs, cars - all silent. Landscape lights and the street lamp came on. Just peaceful and amazing! I'll remember it for a long time.

  4. I didn’t get to see this one, but was in the path of totality in 2017. It was an amazing experience!! So wish I could have seen this one.
