Retro Holiday Punch

Retro Holiday Punch at Miz Helen's Country Cottage
My friends Jennifer and Sandra are enjoying a cup of my Holiday Punch. I have been making my Holiday Punch for many years. I was a newly wed the first holiday season that I made the punch. We didn't have slow cooker's then so we just kept it warm in a stock pot on the stove, then we would pour it up into a pretty tea pot to serve. It is the kind of punch that I can keep some on hand when friends drop by to say hello over the holidays and it is great to serve for large or small gatherings.  I had a small informal gathering for our Study Group and they all wanted the recipe for the Holiday Punch, and I promised to share with them and what better way than to share with all of you!
This Is A Punch That Should Be Served Warm

Ingredients
4 cups granulated sugar
4 cups water
10 whole cloves
1-1/2 ounce loose tea
2-3/4 quarts water
1-1/2 cups lemon juice
2 cups orange juice
1 (48 ounce) can pineapple juice or apple cider
Zest of 2 lemons
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon all-spice
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
Orange slices, thin
Directions
In a large stock pan, over medium heat, mix and dissolve the sugar and water.
In a seperate medium sauce pan, add 1 quart of water, whole cloves and the loose tea. Boil the mixture for 3 minutes. Place a lid on the sauce pan, remove from heat and let set for 5 minutes.
Strain the tea mixture into the water and sugar which is hot and dissolved.
Add 1-3/4 quarts of water and mix well.
Add the fresh lemon juice, 2 cups fresh orange juice and the pineapple juice or apple cider then mix well.
Add the cinnamon, all-spice, and nutmeg, then mix well.
Bring the mixture to a very high heat and when it is just about to boil, place a lid on the punch and reduce the heat to simmer.
If you are going to use a slow cooker for serving, transfer the punch at this point to a preheated slow cooker.
Garnish with orange slices and lemon zest.
Serve warm.
Recipe Tip:
The punch will stay on simmer for about 6 hours, without cooking to long.
The punch can stay in the refrigerator for about 2 weeks.

It would not seem like the holidays here at the cottage without our Retro Holiday Punch. I usually start serving the punch around Thanksgiving and serve it through the Christmas season all the way through New Years. Retro Holiday Punch is a tradition with us.

  5. What a delicious holiday punch, Miz Helen! I love the balance of the tea with the fruit juice. This is perfect for entertaining - it's so nice to have a special warm drink that non-drinkers can enjoy as well. Pinning and sharing on the Hearth and Soul Facebook page.
