Easy French Toast Recipe

Easy French Toast Recipe at Miz Helen's Country Cottage
We just love French Toast here at the cottage, but we don't always have a lot of prep time to make it. I really like this recipe because it has a custard base that is very rich and delicious. You and your family will be sitting down to enjoy this French Toast in a short time. We always try to garnish with fruit in season to give it a very special topping. For a quick breakfast or a weekend brunch this is a great recipe to try for French Toast.

Ingredients
6 to 8 french bread, thick slices
1/2 cup half & half
4 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
dash salt
4 tablespoons butter
4 tablespoons vegetable oil
Powdered Sugar (Optional)
Seasonal Fruit for garnish
Maple Syrup for topping
Directions
Slice the bread and set aside.
In a small bowl, mix together sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt.
In a shallow dish whisk together, the half & half, 4 eggs, and vanilla.
Add the sugar and spice mix, stir well.
Pour the vegetable oil and melt the butter in a large skillet.
Dip the bread in the egg mixture and let the excess drip off.
Place the dipped bread slices into the hot oil and butter. This has a lot of sugar so it will tend to brown fast,(mine always does, and it is so good).
Fry until golden brown on both sides.
Dust With Powdered Sugar (if desired)
Garnish with seasonal fruit and serve with maple syrup.
Enjoy!
