Melody's Apple Puff's
These amazing Apple Puff's were created by our daughter Melody who is visiting us. She decided to treat us with a night off in the kitchen and made these delicious Apple Puff's. Like any blogger, I said hang on a minute let me get my camera, I want to do a blog post on the recipe. She is a great cook and we love seeing her when she is able to come home for a visit. She also made us a delicious Shephard's Pie. Melody, thanks so much for an awesome night off and a great new recipe!

We are going to start with fresh apples.
In a medium mixing bowl, whisk the brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, all-spice and nutmeg all together,
then set aside.
Dip the apple slices into the spice mixture, turning and making sure to cover
the apples slices good on all sides.
Now here comes the fun part we lay the seasoned apples out on the puff pastry and score the cutting lines. Then we fold
the cut peddle lines over the apple slices.
chocolate chips in the center.
Transfer the sheet of puffs to a prepared
parchment lined cookie sheet. Then into the oven for baking.
Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.
Move the baked Apple Puff's to a cooling rack.

Melody's Apple Puff's
A very special dessert for any occasion. Seasoned Apples with puffed pastry and a little chocolate, delicious!
Ingredients
- 1 puff pastry package (add 1 package for every 2 apples you use)
- 1 to 2 small apples (any type will do, pick your favorite)
- 2 eggs
- ½ cup sugar
- 2 TBSP brown sugar
- 1 TBSP cinnamon
- 1 tsp all spice
- ½ tsp nutmeg
Instructions
- Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- In a small, deep bowl, combine the sugar and spices. Use a whisk or fork to mix it up well. Break up any chunks of brown sugar that remain. Taste and adjust the spices to your preference.
- Peel the skin off the apples and core them. Place the apples on the cutting board and slice them into ¼” rings with the core in the center of the ring. Cut the ½” thick if you want higher apple-to-puff pastry ratio.
- Open the puff pastry package and unroll it. The puff pastry is already on parchment paper so no need to flour the surface.
- Lay your apple pieces on the puff pastry to mark out the squares for the apple rings. Cut a square around the apple ring leaving at least 1/2" between the apple and the outside edge of the pastry. You can repeat this for each new square or move to Step 6 to complete the first apple puff before moving on to the next.
- Read this entire step before starting. Remove the apple ring. Using your pastry knife or butter knife cut the corners of the square you marked. Do this by starting your interior cut ½” from the outside edge and cut parallel. You are cutting the interior lines to make a “frame” for the apple ring. In the center of each side your frame you will leave a ¼” section UNCUT. Repeat this for each location for your apple ring.
- Take your apple ring and lay it in the sugar mixture being sure to coat all sides and the interior of the core. I like to flip them around then shake the bowl back and forth to cover the apples in the sugar mixture.
- Transfer the apple from the bowl to the pastry frame, placing in the center.
- Pull each corner of the frame over the apple to the center of the ring. You may need to cut the puff pastry in small sections if the original cut didn’t get all the way through.
- Repeat Steps 8 and 9 for each apple ring.
- Break two eggs and place the yokes only into the bowl; it is ok of the egg whites makes it into the bowl. Whisk up the mixture.
- Using the basting brush coat the top surface of the apple puffs being sure to cover all exposed puff pastry.
- If you are opting to include chocolate morsels place them in the center or each apple puff.
- Transfer the entire sheet of apple puffs onto a baking sheet, leaving them on the puff pastry parchment paper. You may want to place a fresh sheet of parchment paper on the cookie sheet before the transfer in case the puff pastry parchment has some cuts from the construction process.
- Place in oven on the middle rack. Set the time for 20 minutes and check them. You want the puff pastry to be lightly brown and slightly crispy. Apples should soften up by the 30-minute mark, but you can take them out sooner if you like firmer apples.
- Let them cool for 5-10 minutes then enjoy!
Notes
Optional: Dark chocolate morsels or chunks of dark chocolate
- 1 puff pastry package will yield about 6 Apple Puffs if you use small apples
These beautiful Apple Puff's are ready to serve!
These Apple Puff's will be a
great dessert for any occasion.
If you have left over dough and apples,
just look at these awesome treats.
Just wrap the left over puffed pastry dough around a small wedge of the seasoned apple. brush some egg wash on top and place some chocolate chips on top. Bake in a 350 degree oven until golden brown on top.
Thanks so much for stopping by to spend some time with our family in the kitchen today. Hope you are having a fantastic week and come back to see us real soon!
