Summer Garden Fail, 2022

Summer Garden Fail, 2022 at Miz Helen's Country Cottage

We have to declare that the summer garden of 2022, was a fail. The drought here in our part of Texas lasted for over 60 days with not a drop of rain. No matter how much water we poured to our trees, plants and gardens they just could not withstand the 106 and 107 consistent temperatures. It has been a very sad garden harvest for this year. We even placed umbrellas around the gardens to try and save the plants, but they just didn't make it. Thank goodness we had a early spring harvest of green beans, cucumbers, onions, and tomatoes.

This is what my Zinnia Bed usually looks like in late November or December. They are in a contained bed
 that re-seeds every year,
I don't know what to expect next spring.
I may have to completely re-plant the Zinnia bed.

We had Umbrellas all over the garden trying to save a few plants. I often remembered the wonderful trip to Sweden where it was so cool, lush and green. We brought this umbrella back as a memory.

The Veggie Pod on the other hand gave us really great production of Lettuce, Peppers and Carrots.

This Little Guy is the high light of the summer.
I found him one day in the Veggie Pod playing on the bell pepper leaves. I visit him several times a week,
I even think he knows me now.

A couple of weeks ago we got 8 inches of rain in a 24 hour time frame. We have had periodic rain every few days and the yard and some of
the trees are beginning to come back to life.
We are planning our fall and winter garden and
will be planting in the next few weeks.

Thanks so much for stopping by the cottage today, I really appreciate your visit. Hope you have a great week and come back to see us real soon!
Peace and Joy

  1. So sorry about the drought and did enjoy seeing those things that survived. Perhaps the fall planting will be better. Have a great Labor Day and be well. Nancy Andres @ Colors 4 Health

  2. It's just not fair, the weather roller coaster... Very little rain here in Philly too. But I'm smiling at your new little friend:@)

  3. Gardens were pretty awful here too; we had major drought conditions and lots of water bans going on.
