Our Seasonal Gardens

From Garden To Table

We are really enjoying our first season with our new garden boxes. It has been a bit of a learning curve as the boxes are a little different than in the ground gardening. We have harvested most all of the vegetables for this season. We are now having temperatures in the triple digits. Many plants won't survive in that kind of heat so we try to plant early enough to have a early harvest.

We have a very good stand of lettuce in the Veggie Pod. 

It is much cooler in the Pod as 

it has some protection from the heat.

I have had so much fun growing the celery in the Veggie Pod. I cut the celery off of the root about 5 inches up. Put the root into a glass container and cover it with water half way up. Keep the water half way up and set it in a sunny location. In about 3 day's it will have bright green celery leaves coming out of the center of the plant. At that time I plant it in the veggie pod and it makes the most delicious celery and it is so much fun to watch!

I also have parsley, carrots and sage in the pod. Earlier in the spring I had spring onions.

Our Bell Peppers are still producing .

Our Jalapeno's are producing very well and most likely will be fine through the fall season.

The Okra has thrived and we will have a great

 Okra harvest to can and freeze.

As you can see our Tomato harvest is over for the summer. They have started to die back in the heat.

We pruned our tomato vines and removed the cages. We will work the dirt around the roots and keep them watered well. With any luck they will produce again in the fall.

The Zinnia's are starting to bloom, 

I am so excited about the Zinnia's. 

I just love the Yellow Hibiscus by the garden gate.

On the back side of the bush it is now

 putting on the beautiful variable color bloom.

The Red Hibiscus greets everyone on the other side of our whimsical Garden Gate.

We have large pots of

 Begonias and Hydrangeas lining the path.

We love our bird sanctuary with 

hanging Ferns and Begonia baskets.

We have several bird feeders and bird houses in the area.

I love my Herb Garden Boxes, a short walk from my kitchen door. Always at the ready for fresh herbs for the recipes.

The Oregano is just beautiful and smells heavenly.

This precious Freedom Truck is 

sitting at the ready in the herb garden!

And there is our butterfly keeping watch over the herbs and in the far background my special angel surrounded by ferns.

I love sitting on the flagstone patio just on the other side of the herb garden in the evening and

 burning Pinyon Pine logs in the chimenea.
