Whats For Dinner Next Week 10-13-13

I have been doing a little fall canning this week and have been getting some things ready to go to one of the local festivals.  It is so much fun to go to the festivals and check out out the canned goods, arts and crafts.  It is always great to get together with some folks that you don't get a chance to see very often.  I am peeling apples this morning so come on in you can help me, we are going to make some apple butter, and talk about The Menu for next week. Full Plate Thursday Where The Greatest Cooks On The Planet Gather We are really busy here at the cottage getting ready to finish our fall plantings.  We are planting colorful purple kale and multi colored pansies, I just love this combination.  I am taking some of my  Canned Stewed Tomatoes and  Canned Salsa to a fall festival this week end.  I just love the fall with all the fun festivals to attend.  We are having our gathering on the garden patio today, I thought you would enjoy looking at the fall garden.  We are going to have lots of good food today and I can't wait to see what you have brought to share with us today.  Thank you so much for coming today we always look forward to your visits. Texas Star Chili Cook Off 2013

Slow Cooker Polish Sausage, Cabbage and Onions

We are on tour with  Food Of The World , hosted by Diane at Simple Living and Eating.  This month we are visiting Poland.  When Diane announced the country the first thing I thought about were the Polish families that lived in our community when I was a young girl and all the fabulous food they made along with the wonderful stories they told about their homeland.  One of those families, a friend of our family, had a meat market and every week they made polish sausage.  I remember going to the market with my mother and watching them as they made the sausage. It was a real art form, with a rhythm that develops as each individual sausage was twisted into a long chain of sausages.  We would take the fresh sausage home and my mother would prepare it in several different ways, they were all very simple dishes but always delicious.  The recipe that I am presenting today has been developed through the years and has changed just a bit as the popular foods of ou...


Whats For Dinner Next Week 10-6-13

We have had the most beautiful weather with some nice rain and you should just see how much our Fall Tomato Vines have grown with just a little bit of rain.  I am really hoping that they will make before frost I need at least a bushel of green tomatoes so I can make some Chow Chow.  If we start getting low on Chow Chow in the pantry that's like getting low on milk or eggs, you know some things are just a staple in the pantry and on the table.  Come take a walk to the garden with me and we will look at the tomato vines and talk about the menu for next week. We just love apples and who doesn't love a great caramel sauce drizzled all over a fabulous dessert.  This Caramel Apple Blondie Pie is so rich with all the wonderful full flavors of fall,  a brownie and pie all rolled into one.  This will be a dessert that we will serve the year round, but is just perfect for the fall and winter season, hope you enjoy it.
