Top Reader Favorites, 2020 at Miz Helen's Country Cottage
These are the top ten most popular post that you liked in 2020, and what a year it was! 2020 has been one of those years that will surely go down in history as a real struggle for our planet in so many different ways. Some have suffered great loss of family and material goods including businesses and jobs. Those of us who could, have continued trying to make life as normal as could be, but most likely will never have that kind of normal again as we have all changed in this year of 2020. I can see that most of the year we were seeking comfort with most of our food. Some of our most popular recipes this year have been comfort food and making sure that our pantries were stocked when so many super market shelves were empty. Thanks so much for being here during this year to support our Country Cottage Community, you are very important to us. As we close this year out, know that you are loved and that you are covered in prayer everyday!

How do you prepare your pantry for disasters or emergencies? We never know when we will have to face a natural disaster such as a storm or perhaps some other emergencies that will keep us away from the market. There are are even times when that market may  have empty shelves or be closed all together.
I grew up eating this recipe and it has been changed through the years to use some canned products and I have taken it from the stew pot to the slow cooker. The basic ingredients for this stew remain the same and the flavors bring me right back to the days when I would go to my Grandpa's cotton patch and help pull cotton all day.
I made this cake for family gathering's and some of our family just love this recipe so we call it Nana's Spice Cake. This recipe is very moist and the blend of spices are a perfect balance that makes this a great cake to have for any occasion.
It is a great recipe that is ready to go on the table in a very short time and it is worth waiting on every minute, it really is that good. A great blend of seasons and into an instant pot for the quick but tender turn around, then it has this amazing sauce.
Cajun Cornbread has a blend of Cajun seasons blended with some stone ground corn meal, this makes a slice of cornbread you wont forget. We love our cornbread here at the cottage and this cornbread recipe is a spicy blend that will kick up any meal. I am often ask to bring my Cajun Cornbread to a covered dish event, one skillet full doesn't last very long.
This recipe has lots of wonderful fruit with a delicious dressing that puts it over the top for me. If you want to come home with an empty bowl from the pot luck, carry this salad, everyone always loves it!
Garden Veggie Cornbread Casserole is one of those recipes that could actually be dessert, it is that good. This casserole will be great to serve as a side dish for any occasion. I have taken this dish to covered dish dinners, family get to-gathers and picnics, it is always a hit with folks who love food.
One of our favorite recipes is our Old Fashioned Creamed Cabbage, it is a very simple dish but has amazing flavor that comes through with a creamy sauce. There is no doubt that this is a delicious comforting vegetable dish.
This is not just an ordinary Bundt cake, this is a very special recipe that will give you a big surprise with the first bite. This Lemon Pudding Bundt Cake has a very moist cake plus two, yes two pudding's, that make it so special.
Our Ranch House Soup is a soup that could be found in a lot of ranch houses around our part of the country when we were growing up. The soup is full of wonderful hearty vegetables with a full range of Tex-Mex flavors. One bowl of this soup is never enough.

  1. I can tell people were stocking up their pantries since all the non-perishables were gone from our stores for weeks on end and yet we never had problems with fresh fruits and vegetables! It was so weird... what a weird, weird year all the way around. We definitely used more comfort foods than ever to get through.
