Background Story For Full Plate Thursday

When we were young and just starting out in life sometimes we did not have a lot of money. Most of our friends were having to stretch the dollars at the end of the month just like us. My girlfriends and I decided that we would pool our food for some of the evening meals right before payday... the last week of the week. I have some of the fondest memories from those days. We would all bring our food together and we had some great food and great fellowship. We would get the food on the table and everything ready, someone would bless the food and then the hostess would say "come fill your plate".

  1. School starts today here in North GA were we live. I remember when we didn't start until after Labor Day. We didn't get as many weeks off in the school year as they do now though.

I made your Summer Harvest Bread again a couple weeks ago.

  3. Miz Helen, you just know how to make my day! Thank you so much for featuring my fillonuts (fillo doughnuts). My granddaughter wants to take them to her first day of school and share with other first-graders. I think she'll be the coolest kid in the class but I might be just a tad bias (and not because of doughnuts, ha) :D

  4. Happy August, Miz Helen! I remember the long 3 month school holidays fondly, but in the UK, our kids have only just finished school for the summer break. They are off from the very end of July until the beginning of September. Seems like a very short break to me! Thank you for hosting the party. I'm sharing a brand new recipe, Spicy Crab Topped Cod Fillets. They are really quick and easy to make, so perfect for hot summer days, and for entertaining all year round. Have a great weekend!
